The Alere Pima™ CD4 test gives you the ability to monitor patients while they are still in your care. It offers a one stop, same day result for absolute CD4 count in less than 20 minutes.
Consisting of the Alere Pima™ Analyser and Alere Pima™ CD4 test cartridge, the Alere Pima™ test gives you the tools, at the point-of-care, to enhance patient management, allowing you to make important treatment decisions and provide antiretroviral therapy, if needed.
Portable, small and lightweight, weighing just 2.5kg (5.5lbs) the Alere Pima™ Analyser is powered either by a rechargeable battery, or can be run from mains A/C power. The Alere Pima™ Analyser Bag allows you to easily transport the Analyser as well as all disposables needed to run the test, in a convenient and comfortable over the shoulder bag. This portable system empowers you to take healthcare to the patient rather than making the patient come to you.

The Alere Pima™ CD4 test is the gateway to increased access to CD4 testing and improved patient outcomes.
Health programmes such as those in rural Mozambique are already showing the benefits provided by the Alere Pima™ CD4 test, observing a reduction in the complexity of the process from HIV diagnosis to ART initiation15.
Importantly, the total time to ART initiation was decreased from 44 to 21 days, even though the number of people attending the health centre for HIV testing had increased significantly15.

Lab Accurate CD4 Count,
The Alere Pima™ Analyser employs the same static image analysis and counting principles as existing CD4 enumeration technology, in a compact, portable and robust package at the point-of-care.
Thoroughly validated in numerous independent studies, the Alere Pima™ CD4 test consistently delivers results comparable to those obtained using conventional lab based flow cytometry methods.
Results show that when comparing the Alere Pima™ CD4 test to a gold standard laboratory CD4 test, the Alere Pima™ CD4 test provides an equivalence of 96% of all samples that were tested16.
The Alere Pima™ CD4 test generates absolute CD4 count, equivalent precision and accuracy as compared to the lab tests when using venous draw17.
Reduce patient loss to follow-up
Routinely, healthcare providers in remote settings wishing to test HIV+ patients' absolute CD4 count are faced with the challenge of not only transporting a patient sample to test sites, but also providing the results back to the patient. Consequently, many patients are lost to follow up.
By providing same day CD4 cell count results, the Alere Pima™CD4 test has been instrumental in reducing patient loss to follow up.
Jani et al. (2010) demonstrated significant improvements in Mozambique, with the proportion of patients lost to follow-up before completion of CD4 staging dropping from 57% to 21%. The total loss to follow up before initiation of ART was almost halved, dropping from 64% to 33%15.
Similar improvements were seen in a home based HIV testing study in South Africa, with 100% of patients receiving their CD4 result, increasing from just 58% at baseline. 95% of these patients received their CD4 result in just 20 minutes18.

The Alere Pima™ CD4 Analyser needs no external controls or calibration, removing the need for maintenance, lowering your running costs and reducing machine down time.
The reagents within the Cartridge are freeze dried and do not require refrigeration, making transportation and storage simple.

The robustness of the Alere Pima™ CD4 test provides you with a lab quality instrument that will work in dust, heat and humidity. The reagents sealed within the Cartridge are dried and don't require refrigeration. The Analyser is powered by either battery or mains A/C power and switches effortlessly between the two, even if a test is running. No additional reagents, including water are needed.
The Alere Pima™ CD4 test procedure is elegantly simple. With an intuitive interface and easy three step process, the test can be used by people working at a variety of levels within the health care system.

The Alere Pima™ CD4 Cartridge is a breakthrough technology enabling the use of whole-blood fingerstick or venous blood samples to identify T-helper cells and establish an absolute CD4 count.
The Cartridge requires only 25µL of sample, with a control window built in to ensure that the right volume is added. Sample processing is automatically performed inside the sealed cartridge.
Insertion of the Alere Pima™ CD4 Cartridge into the Alere Pima™ Analyser automatically starts the testing process providing you with a direct, absolute CD4 measurement, in less than 20 minutes.

With the Alere Pima™ CD4 test you can start testing quickly and easily.
Once you have all the necessary equipment, with our onsite training you can start testing patients immediately. Training can be completed onsite in just one day with our professional training team running you through all elements of the test, from using the interface to the collection of fingerstick blood samples.
The Alere Training & Technical Support Centre of Excellence, based in Cape Town, South Africa, is just one example of how Alere is focussing on building a sustainable training and technical support infrastructure for Alere Pima™ CD4 users. The centre is ISO 13484 accredited and offers user and technical training to customers and distribution partners in the region. The Centre provides on-going mentorship to Alere Pima™ CD4 users to ensure the best level of user experience, service back up and quality performance for the Alere Pima™ CD4 system.
